So I had mentioned several times before the website crash (learned my lesson – backup often) that we would be heading out to GenCon 2011 this year in Indianapolis, IN – for the best four days in gaming. Back when I had made those posts, it seemed forever away. But now . . .
Yikes! We have a little over two weeks until it’s go time. In fact, two weeks from tomorrow is when all our travel nonsense begins.
I’ve learned over the years from other conventions I’ve gone to that you want a happy medium when it comes to preparation. If you plan too much – no fun will be had, and you’ll have a bunch of useless stuff in your way. But if you don’t plan and just go, you’re playing ketch-up the entire time, or finding yourself shelling out for expenses you wouldn’t have had if you had just remembered to bring an extra pair of sneakers.
As it sits, I don’t have the time right now to over plan, which is a good thing. Finals for two of my classes will take me all the way till next Monday to complete. Add that up with a death in the family, and my mind is definitely elsewhere until at least the middle of next week, giving me just enough time to get the right amount of packing time in before heading out at 6am Wednesday the 3rd.
